Starting Off The Week...

We are not alone...
Happy Monday! Here's what we've gleaned so far today...

The Australian Federation has announced a new high performance coach. Wayne Roycroft's assistant, Prue Barrett, has been named to the interim position..  Read more

Horse and Hound reports that Lucinda Green has been hired by the Austrian Equestrian Federation to help their team qualify for the 2012 London Olympics.  Qualification is  going to be a tall order for the Austrians. To do so, they  must produce one of the two top performances at Luhmühlen (25-28 August), excluding the Brits, Germans, and Belgians, whom have already qualified...  Read more

More Lucinda:  Currently, she is in Christchurch NZ for a two day clinic.  If you're in the area today and tomorrow, this is the place to be

H&H also reports that Britain's planned high speed rail line, The HS2 is creating great concern amongst the fox-hunting and eventing populations. The planned location of the high speed line cuts through great swaths of hunting and eventing countryside...  Read more

Obesity is not just problem for our own equine population here in the States. The Horse and Hound reports that the University of Nottingham recently produced a report in which they claimed half of the UK's horses could be declaired obese!  Good to know we're not the only country that tends to keep our equine friends rather on the plump side...  Read more.

British Dressage reports that the organization, along with British Show Jumping, have become shareholders in Britain's Horse and Country Television.  The Dressage organization hopes to promote the sport through the power of TV. We wish there were more equestrian sport coverage and eventing coverage in particular on US television! Perhaps our national's could buy into OWN.  Oprah rides... it's a natural!

British Dressage Maven Laura Bechtoltheimer's blog reports that she took off across the countryside with a few Beaufort Hunt pals, writing that for her horse, it was a great break from the prim and proper dressage yard. It must be fun for a horse to really blow out the pipes across country after all that collected work!

And, unless you've been living under a rock, you know that Paul Schockemöhle and Matthias Rath have been keeping Tortilas quitely under wraps, only appearing once since Schockemöhle stunned the world with his purchase of the all time top dressage horse. This past weekend Rath trotted Tortilas out for a public exhibition Musical Kur. It is early days for this pair but we don't, as of yet, see a great connection between these two.  See what you think...
