Title:  Warehouse Manager (reports to the Vice President)

Qualifications/Skills:   Manage, organize, direct and inspect the operations and staff of warehouse, purchasing, shipping, receiving and assembly departments.  That includes developing budgets, safety management, developing standards, managing processes, inventory control, reporting skills, analyzing information, equipment maintenance, judgment and effective leadership to achieve an overall well-oiled operation.

Specific requirements:
·        Fluency in Microsoft Applications and order/warehouse management systems
·        Extensive experience managing multiple direct reports in multiple departments with successful track record.
·        Juggle and maintain multiple priorities, situations and levels of focus
·        Understanding of warehouse operations
·        Critical thinking and decision making
·        Organize inputs, make decisions, delegate, inspect and hold staff accountable to commitments
·        Ability to take a holistic view of the roles and responsibility of the department and the company
Duties, Responsibilities, Objectives:
·   Maintains receiving, warehousing, and distribution operations by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing program, operational, and personnel policies and procedures.
·   Complies with federal, state, and local warehousing, material handling, and shipping requirements by studying existing and new legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.
·   Safeguards warehouse operations and contents by establishing and monitoring security procedures and protocols.
·   Controls inventory levels by conducting physical counts; reconciling with data storage system.
·   Maintains physical condition of warehouse by planning and implementing new design layouts; inspecting equipment; issuing work orders for repair and requisitions for replacement.
·   Achieves financial objectives by preparing an annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.
·   Completes warehouse operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees; following up on work results.
·   Maintains warehouse staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees.
·   Maintains warehouse staff job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
·   Maintains professional and technical knowledge by various methods, i.e. attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
·   Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Job Description
Looking for an energetic and enthusiastic assistant trainer who ideally has experience riding young horses, teaching up to the intermediate level western pleasure/trail, grooming, and handling on the ground. Will be producing bombproof, safe, trail horses using Monty Roberts methods. Ideally a patient, gentle, soft rider with some colt starting experience. Must also want to learn Monty Roberts Methods.  Looking for someone who is hard working and a detail oriented person with both great horse and people skills.

Requirements
Western Pleasure/trail riding ability.  Must have good horse sense and knowledge of horse health and care, grooming, bathing and leading. Has experience handling young stock, starting under saddle, long lining and cart training is a plus.

Located in beautiful Solvang, California, this 100 acre farm has a 40 stall training barn, 10 stall western barn, 20 stall shed row, 10 stall shed row, all with rubber mats.  There are also 20 starter/gentler pens, a mustang pen and a chute used for the international school also on the property.  Facility also includes large green pastures, 2 covered round pens with OttoSport footing, 2 outdoor round pens, an outdoor multi-disciplinary training arena, 24,000 foot covered arena, 5/8 mile race track, Aquatred, equine exerciser, and a USDA approved equine export facility.

BASIC FUNCTION:
The Manager of Communications is responsible for executing AQHA’s communications and marketing plans. The Manager of Communications will create and distribute content that position AQHA as the industry leader and the American Quarter Horse as the preferred breed on a worldwide basis. The Manager of Communications will work with the marketing and publications staff to efficiently distribute all marketing, communications and e-commerce efforts.
                                                          
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve as the primary traffic coordinator in the development of AQHA communications and marketing materials
Track brochures, signage, advertisements, press releases and other collateral materials from creative development through final production
Communicate with program and marketing managers to gather art, creative direction and materials prior to sending to production.
Track materials through the proofing process to ensure approval by appropriate parties and that all materials meet AQHA standards
Assist Association and Foundation departments in the development of material necessary to achieve their marketing goals.
Monitor materials through traffic system to achieve economies of scale and efficiencies in developing promotional material.
Look for ways to use already developed content in multiple ways.
Write or assign press releases, brochures, Web content and other marketing and information materials
Oversee distribution of all AQHA/AQHF material ensuring it reaches target market.
Establish and meet press release deadlines, ensure Web material is updated frequently
Write public service announcements, scripts, internal communications and speeches or executive communications, as needed.
Maintain AQHA’s media contacts list
Assist in coordinating pressroom and promotional activities for AQHA’s World shows, Convention and other promotional activities, banquets and receptions.
Serve as the main marketing point of contact for the AQHA Corporate Partner department and as the secondary contact for the Foundation and Hall of Fame & Museum.
Other duties as assigned

INTERNAL RELATIONS:
Reports to Director of Communications and maintains regular contact with Association staff and employees.

EXTERNAL RELATIONS:
Maintain contact with media, advertisers, AQHA members, industry officials, vendors and participants at various events.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, English or related degree
Display a high-degree of organization and ability to function in a fast-paced, multi-faceted area.
Ability to oversee, guide and manage multiple projects
Must have exemplary writing skills with deep knowledge of AP style and English grammar
MS Office skills with some design experience a plus

Under-18 Regional Coach Vacancy – Wales and Border Region
 

In 2010 British Eventing underwent an exciting restructure of its Under-18 Programmes (BE100JR, JRN and Juniors) in order to create a simple, practical and affordable system to monitor Under-18’s from entry into the sport right through to representing their country, based on a structured coaching programme. As part of this development BE recruited sixteen regional Under-18 Coaches; two for each of the eight Under-18 regions.
A vacancy for one of the Regional Coach positions has become available in the Wales and Border region.

The Regional Coaches, in conjunction with their Under-18 Regional Representative, will be responsible for delivering a complete regional training and education programme for registered U-18 riders, including stable management, rules and regulations, equine and human fitness.

The Regional Coaches will be expected to attend U-18 classes at BE events including National Championships when required and provide assistance and support to U-18 Regional Reps. The coaches will undertake or delegate course walks as required.

The two Regional Coaches will work equally within their region and all 16 will report to the Under-18 National Coach. The Regional Coaches should:

• Ideally reside in the region for which they are appointed
• Be a currently listed BE accredited/UKCC Level 3 (Eventing) Coach or a UKCC Level 2/3 Coach or BHSI/FBHS working toward their UKCC Level 3.
• Have started working toward their UKCC Level 3 by 31st December 2012

Regional Coaches will be paid a daily rate plus expenses for coaching days. When attending events mileage only will be paid. A fixed daily rate plus mileage will be applied for attendance at championship events.

Kentucky Equine Research Global Marketing Internship

Kentucky Equine Research (KER) is one of the foremost private equine nutrition and exercise physiology research facilities in the world. The main business of KER is as a consultant to feed manufacturers on six continents. Secondarily KER has two lines of equine supplements, including the KERx line, which has been heavily researched.

KER is seeking an intern to work no less than 16 hours a week with the Global Marketing Department located on the KER research farm in Versailles, Ky. This could be a full-time paid internship for the right candidate.

Any intern applicant should be:
1)    Interested in learning and working in digital media with editorial content and product sales.
2)    Detail-oriented and able to efficiently follow a set process consisting of multiple steps, as well as identify and communicate inefficiencies and inaccuracies.
3)    Have a good grasp of the English language, grammar, and punctuation, and respect for and attention to internal style guidelines. Knowledge of AP style a plus.
4)    Have an interest in, and experience with, online communications, including newsletters and social media.
5)    Be self-sufficient and manage time well; this includes being punctual and meeting all deadlines with minimal oversight.
6)    Be able to work independently, but also work as part of a team.

The job duties of this internship shall include, but not be limited to:
·         Working on multiple electronic newsletters each week.
o   For this task, basic HTML knowledge is required.
o   This also requires written communication with all areas of the company.
o   Strict attention to multiple weekly deadlines is required.
·         Working on PC-based software programs (including learning multiple website content management systems)
·         Working with images (knowledge of PhotoShop and metadata a plus).
·         Written and verbal communications with people from various backgrounds and cultures.
·         Proofreading and making changes to live electronic documents.
·         Working in website content management systems to input content.
·         Some writing opportunities will exist.

Equine career fair to help students prepare for internships, workforce

LEXINGTON, Ky., (Feb. 22, 2011) – The University of Kentucky Equine Initiative and the Georgetown College Equine Scholars Program have teamed up to host the 2011 Equine Career Fair March 1 from 4 to 7:30 p.m. EST in the E.S. Good Barn on the UK campus.

UK has hosted the annual event since 2009. It is designed to help equine students prepare for a career in the horse industry. The event is not limited to UK students; all students with an equine interest are encouraged to participate.

The fair will open with pizza and a welcoming address by Jen Roytz, marketing and communications director for Three Chimneys Farm. Participants can then attend two breakout sessions. Elizabeth LaBonty, lecturer and internship coordinator in the UK equine undergraduate degree program, will lead a session on résumés, cover letters and thank-you notes. Additionally, Essie Rogers, director of education and welfare for the Kentucky Horse Council, will speak about networking in Kentucky’s equine community.

Following the sessions, students will have an opportunity to visit with participating companies and organizations to find out more about potential job and internship opportunities. Confirmed participants include Alltech, American Saddlebred Horse Association, Central Kentucky Riding for Hope, Darley Flying Start Program, Fasig-Tipton, Gluck Equine Research Center, Hagyard Medical Institute, Kentucky Equine Education Project, Kentucky Equine Management Internship, Kentucky Horse Council, Kentucky Horseshoeing School, Kentucky Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association, Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital, United States Equestrian Federation and United States Hunter Jumper Association.

“I am really excited that Georgetown College is partnering with us to host this year’s Equine Career Fair,” LaBonty said. “The past two have been attended by more than 120 students, and it is a great opportunity for students and the industry to interact one-on-one.”

“We are eager to partner with UK on the 2011 Equine Career Fair and to expose students to the myriad of job possibilities in the industry, allowing them to network not only with equine entities, but with other students who share the same equine passions,” said Sarah Coleman, executive director of the Georgetown College Equine Scholars Program.
